It follows that he concentrates on meditation for psychological health and well-being. The more spiritual aspects of meditation are played down. But throughout the book are inspiring quotations from many famous meditators, including The Dalai Lama, Thich That Hanh, Pema Chodron, Ram Dass, Eckhart Tolle, etc.This is an introductory book for beginning meditators, and the tone is reassuring. The author frequently emphasizes that meditation is not difficult. In addition to simple meditation practices, there are clear instructions on all aspects of meditation, including reasons to meditate, posture, making time to practice, how long to practice, etc. Each chapter ends with a list of takeaways which summarize the main points and a homework assignment, in which the reader is invited to visit the author’s web site to access additional resources, including recorded meditations.The book is attractively designed, with inspiring color photographs throughout. I’m impressed with Kenneth J. Martz’s ‘Manage my Meditation: Seven Days to a Powerful Tool for Success and Transformation’. It’s a quick read, uncomplicated, step-by-step, and blessedly free of all the New Age woo I was expecting. In fact, it’s an interesting, comprehensive, down-to-earth guide to beginning meditation. I picked up the book just to review it. But having read it, I’m now giving some thought on how to fit a meditation regimen into my schedule.
